Prophet Muhammad’s Resilience: A Divine Triumph Amidst Hardship

During the battle of Khandaq, an army of over ten thousand from Makkah marched towards the small city of Madina, intent on an attack. The Muslims faced a critical decision. After careful consideration, they resolved to dig a trench around the city to prevent the army’s advance.

Despite the scorching heat, the Sahabas tirelessly dug day in and day out, their stomachs often empty. During the labour, they encountered a massive rock obstructing the trench’s path. Turning to the Prophet, they sought his guidance on how to proceed.

Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) recalled, “When the Prophet came, I saw him walking with weakness, tired, fatigued, and hungry. As he approached, I noticed we had tied one rock on our stomachs, while he had three tied to his.”

Seeing the Prophet in such a state pained Jabir deeply. He hastened home and discussed the matter with his wife, inquiring if they had anything to offer the dear Prophet.

His wife informed him, “We have a bit of barley and a small portion of meat.” Jabir instructed her to prepare the food and then went to fetch the Prophet. Leaning close, he whispered, “O Messenger of Allah, I have prepared food for you at my home. Please come with a few of the Sahabas.”

Upon hearing this, the Prophet rose and announced, “O people of the trench, we are invited to Jabir’s house.” At that moment, there were about three thousand people in the trench.

Though surprised, Jabir heard the Prophet counsel, “O Jabir, tell your wife not to start preparing the food until I arrive.” He hurried home and relayed the message. His wife assured him, “Why worry? It is the Prophet who invited everyone, and he knows what he is doing.”

And so, the Prophet of Allah graced their home. What an honour to host Rasoolullah! He blessed and prayed over the food before starting to serve food. Jabir marvelled as people ate, and when all three thousand had been fed, he went inside. To his astonishment, he found the bread and meat untouched, unchanged by the miraculous event. Subhanallah, what a marvel!

Miracles performed by prophets, known as “مُعْجِزَة”, are recounted in the Quran as divine interventions. According to Allah’s decree, every phenomenon is inherently natural. When a human is bestowed with extraordinary abilities through divine grace, it becomes a manifestation of the possible and conceivable. Miracles carried out through the benevolence of Allah, are considered within the bounds of acceptability.

Prophet Muhammad story – 2

Prophet Muhammad’s (ﷺ) Mercy

In the annals of Islamic history, there exist accounts that illuminate the exemplary example of Prophet Muhammad’s mercy and wisdom. Among them is a narrative from the campaign of Dhat-ur-Riqa`, a testament to the Prophet’s unyielding trust in Allah and his magnanimity even in the most trying circumstances.

During the campaign of Dhat-ur-Riqa`, the companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), were with him. He sought rest beneath a shady tree. A polytheist approached, finding the Prophet’s sword hung on a branch. He asked, “Who will protect you from me?” The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, “Allah.” Instantly, the sword slipped from the man’s hand. Swiftly, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) caught it and inquired, “Who will protect you from me?” The man implored, “Please forgive me.” The Prophet (ﷺ) proposed, “On the condition that you testify there is none worthy of worship but Allah and I am His Messenger.” The man declined, promising, “I shall not fight against you, nor shall I be with those who fight you.” The Prophet (ﷺ) granted him mercy and let him go. He returned to his companions and remarked, “I have come to you from one of the best of mankind.” (Narrated by Jabir, May Allah be pleased with him)

It underscores that in moments of potential conflict, steadfast faith in Allah’s protection and an inclination towards mercy can dissolve hostility. Prophet Muhammad’s (ﷺ) actions reflect the essence of Islam and the importance of mercy – a religion rooted in peace, compassion, and the unwavering belief in the ultimate benevolence of the Almighty. The life history of prophet Muhammad unveils to a remarkable role model for entire humanity.
